Two consecutive Saturdays, April 19 and 26 • 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM
Location: Middle Valley Community Center, 359 West Mill Rd., Long Valley NJ 07853
Donation: $25 includes both days
Based on the groundbreaking work of Sandra Ingerman, this powerful healing practice helps to transform personal and environmental toxins. It includes beautiful rituals and journeys to dream a new dream for a healthy planet . This program is for anyone who is concerned for our Mother Earth and wants to effect positive change.
Facilitated by Elise Cummiskey & Julie Lange Groth - who have been personally trained by Sandra Ingerman to lead Medicine for the Earth gatherings
Together we can create heaven on earth
Sandra Ingerman, author of Medicine for the Earth: How to Transform Personal and Environmental Toxins, was invited to present this body of work before the U.N. in July 2006. Its efficacy has been demonstrated in scientific and medical studies.
From cross-cultural legends of shamanic cures to biblical accounts of seas parting and water transforming into wine, the world’s great spiritual traditions are rich with stories about miracles. The ancient healing art of transmutation is based on the alchemical principle: As within, so without; as above, so below.
During this gathering we will create a sacred space in which miracles are possible. Using a powerful combination of journeywork and ceremony, our work will focus on transmuting not only physical toxins in the environment, but also emotional and mental toxins that create harm.
- Blanket or mat to lie on
- pillow or backjack to sit on
- bandanna or eyeshade
- notebook or journal
- comfortable clothes suitable for going outdoors
- sack lunch and snacks for yourself

SHAMANISM AND CREATIVITY
July 12 and 13 • 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM
Location: Skylands Unitarian Fellowship, 229 Main St., Hackettstown, NJ 07840
Directions: www.skylandsuu.org/directions.php
Workshop fee: $125 to register by June 28; $135 after
This class will explore Shamanic techniques as a portal to the inner artist. Through a series of hands-on class exercises, we will use shamanic techniques to enter a light trance state and journey through the rich and fruitful landscapes within ourselves.
You will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of art forms, not just the one in which you have the most experience. One of our goals is to silence the inner critic that lies within us, telling us we can't draw, sing, dance, or make music, etc. By using shamanic methods, we will access the deep wellspring of creativity within ourselves so that our spirits can more freely express themselves in the world.
| Members of a Shamanism and Creativity class enjoy sharing the visions they acquired in shamanic journeys, visions that are keys to unlocking their innate creativity. Creativity can take form visually, in writing, movement, drama, etc. |
 |
What does Shamanism have to do with Creativity?
Since earliest times, the Shaman's job was to be an intermediary with the world of Spirit, bringing back information and messages -- often expressed through images, songs, dances, or stories .
Although your personal belief system may not include communication with helping spirits, we can all learn a great deal from shamanic traditions. At the very least, some of the techniques of Shamanism can be very useful in helping us communicate with the creative spirit within each of us. Whether you think of it as your muse, your inner voice, or your higher self, shamanic techniques can give you freer access to the creative aspect of yourself.
This class is for you if...
- You want to find new ways to unlock your creative abilities
- You are an experienced or beginning artist in any art form -- the visual arts, music, dance, drama, creative writing, photography, or any other
- You want to overcome a creative block or open up some new windows into your creative life
- You need some creative solutions to life problems

TWO-YEAR PROGRAM
IN SHAMANIC HEALING
Led by Elise Cummiskey & Julie Lange Groth |
|
Participation is by invitation only. If you are interested in being considered for this program, please contact Julie or Elise.
These are the first four of eight weekend dates (Friday evening-Sunday afternoon):
March 14-16, 2008
June 20-22, 2008
September 19-21, 2008
December 12-14, 2008
Location: Kirkridge Retreat Center, 2495 Fox Gap Road Bangor, PA 18013
|
This program is for those who wish to take their shamanic knowledge, skills, and experience to a deeper level within a safe and trusted community of spiritual seekers. For some, it will be a preparation to work with integrity, compassion, and confidence as healers and leaders of their own shamanic communities. For others, it will be a process of inner exploration, transformation and growth.
Over a 2-year period, participants will meet four times each year for a weekend beginning on Friday evening and continuing through Sunday afternoon at the beautiful Kirkridge Retreat Center near Bangor, PA.
Elise and Julie have created this program to pass on the knowledge that other spiritual teachers have shared with them, both in the physical and non-physical realms. Students will work with power animals, ancestor spirits, nature spirits and various other-world teachers, using a variety of shamanic techniques, including journeywork, ritual, ceremony and various initiations to facilitate self-healing and to ease the physical, mental and emotional suffering of others.
Coursework includes: soul retrieval, extraction, working with death and dying, Medicine for the Earth, healing with spiritual light, divination and other core techniques used by shamans across many times and cultures. This work can be intense at times, and an optional monthly gathering will be available to provide ongoing support and community throughout this program.
Comments from past participants:
“It led me to reassess how I spend my energies, what I focus them on, and fostered a huge shift in my life, which brings me much joy as well as a sense of satisfaction at having a way to walk in both worlds every day.”
“I love the way the two of you teach. It’s perfect yin/yang. I also love that you always have control of the group but in a loving way.”
“I am not the same person who entered the program -- I am a better person.”

MUDBABY BIRTHING WORKSHOP
Led by Julie Lange Groth
A Mudbaby is a small, roundish creation, handmade of cloth and river stone, and filled with rich brown earth and other natural materials. Mudbabies represent a particular tribe of nature spirits who serve the world as the caretakers of wishes, hopes, and dreams on their way to coming true. No two Mudbabies are alike, for each is assigned to hold a certain someone's special yearning.
In this 5-hour workshop, you will create a Mudbaby, either for yourself or as a gift for someone else. The process will begin with a special "envisioning" meditation, and it will culminate with a Mudbaby Birthing Ceremony.
In this workshop you will:
- Learn about the special tribe of nature spirits known as Mudbabies
- Embark on an inner journey to envision what your Mudbaby wants to look like
- Select materials from a wide assortment of fabrics, trims, and charms that will be available at the workshop
- Learn how to mindfully assemble your Mudbaby
- Participate in a group birthing ceremony for the Mudbabies created during the workshop
What to bring:
- Collect a smooth river stone, about 1/2" to 1" in diameter. It should be as round as possible -- but doesn't have to be perfect.
- Collect a small amount of soil (1/4 cup is plenty) from a place you have good feelings about.
- Bring a sack lunch
- You'll also need a blanket, pillow, notebook and pen, and eye shade or bandana
